Design, like any other artistic skill, takes
time to learn regardless of your innate ability. Here at Old
World Classics, Inc. we have spent years perfecting our specialization
in the broad field of design: 100% naturally dyed decorative carpets.
Through the unique structure of our company we have been able to create
an environment in which interaction with our clients shapes the direction
of our product. Before going any deeper into the description of our
rugs I'll fill you in on exactly how OWC
is structured. Ownership of the looms in India, where we manufacture
our carpets, gives us complete control over what each individual piece
will look like. Beri Kuntic, the founder of Old
World Classics, is in constant and direct contact with the loom
manager in India and also makes numerous trips a year in order to provide
guidance to our employees, select materials and colors for new pieces,
and to recruit new weavers. Because our weavers are among the highest
paid and most skilled individuals in India, before being employed by
Old World Classics they must demonstrate
their knowledge of not only weaving, but of the designs and dyes that
are being implemented in each particular carpet. This is no small task.
The art and science of vegetable dying is a tedious one because it's
a constant trial and error project in which we search for the perfect
hue of each color. The final product is a culmination of an expert knowledge
of chemistry and botany (provided by K.G. Vasistha, our partner in India)
and a market sensibility that caters to the needs of designers and decorators
nationwide (provided by Beri). With these two innovative individuals
at the helm, OWC has pioneered the field
of vegetable dyes in India.
