7 Home Design Trends of 2017
Old World Classic’s dedicated Design Team spends countless hours each week turning their client’s inspiration photos into their dream homes. Needless to say they’ve seen a lot of ideas in their day— we like to say they are North Ohio’s own styling team! Below they share their 7 favorite trends for 2017.
White cabinetry is always timeless, but we have been introducing more dark & deep based colors into cabinetry and built-ins. We love the emotion these darker cabinets evoke throughout the day with different lighting. The room comes to life in the morning with bright light and in the evening as the light dims the space transforms with soft lighting and candles.
Windows are getting larger with the influence of Modern Design on Traditional Homes. Windows that extend from floor to ceiling are influenced from the modern lofts downtown. We are even doing large windows in unexpected places like the two story kitchen window in our Mulberry model home.
Informal Communal Dining
The formal dining room space has been on the decline for several years now, however we are now integrating larger informal dining spaces to fit 10’ long farmhouse tables. These are spaces that are comfortable for every day dining and large enough to comfortable seat the whole family for the Holidays.
Natural Wood Textures
The influence of rustic and reclaimed wood has been a trend for several years now. Recently, we have been softening the rustic elements of the wood and using gray based stains to blend the wood into more modern spaces. Adding natural wood to a room makes the space come alive with depth and complexity that can’t be achieved with painted surfaces.
Outdoor living is no longer just a patio or porch attached to the house. We are now integrating outdoor space as an extension of the natural flow of the home by using large doors that open onto these spaces, flooring that extends from the home seamlessly into the outdoor space, and infared heaters to extend the use of these outdoor spaces.
Gone are the times of thinking of modern design as cold and institutional feeling. Modern design is influencing design even in the most traditional homes. One of the biggest areas we see this influence is in Black Windows being used to give an industrial feel and is the perfect juxtaposition in a traditional architectural design.
Personality vs. Perfection
The Home is about Individual Expression – Not perfection. There are so many great ideas out there at your fingertips on site such as Houzz and Pinterest, that it can be overwhelming. As designers we love these sites because they allow you to find all kinds of ideas that help you express to us the things that you like with much more clarity than you could a few years ago. It is our job as your design team to blend these concepts together for you to create a home that meets your needs and reflects the personality of your family.
